THE LANDMARK INITIATIVE IS A SPECIALIZED APPROACH TO DRUG TREATMENT FOR NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS
Treatment Solutions Network recently announced that its innovative POWER Initiative has been activated across the country and has made an instant impact on the recovery community.
The POWER (Public Officers’ Wellness, Empowerment, and Recovery) Initiative was born out of a desire to eliminate the frustration associated with the current public officer recovery process and the will to provide a clearer path to health for all those affected by addiction.
The P.O. in the acronym represents the focus of the initiative…to serve Public Officers. It is not just a “track” included in the protocol of a treatment center, where some time is dedicated to treat a certain population, while the majority of the treatment experience is preset to one size fits all. With that in mind, the POWER Initiative has been designed to focus on the needs of Public Officers in particular, and the specialized care they require.
The POWER Initiative was set in motion by a team of Public Safety Officers and will continue to evolve according to their own personal experience. The members of the team engaged in its development are men and women from the ranks of Public Safety workers whose unique experience and knowledge shape the program. Along with clinical experts, the team develops a unique strategy for each individual in need of help and arranges clinical interventions that, according to the best research in the fields of psychology and substance abuse, will best suit the person in need of help. Sadly, until this initiative, there was no specialized formula.
The W in our name stands for Wellness. It indicates that we are ambitious and the POWER Initiative is not designed to be a band-aid. It has been designed to not only deal with the urgent circumstances that bring people to treatment, but also to facilitate a lifestyle that embodies the ideal balance of health, mind and body.
The E stands for Empowerment. One of the most tragic effects of drug addiction is how rapidly a powerful individual can become emotionally, spiritually and morally bankrupt. The dependency of drugs creates a person dependent upon hollow fulfillment, one that loses his or her ability to be self-reliant. Instead of fulfilling their needs by exercising their skills, and command, they manipulate others for short-term relief.
Public Safety Officers are such people, courageous people whose jobs demand valor and strength until addiction destroys everything. The POWER Initiative restores them to the heroes that they are. The POWER Initiative is built on the experience of Public Safety Officers, not academics.
The R in our name stands for Recovery. In the POWER Initiative, Recovery does not only refer to recovery from addiction, it means to RECOVER all that was lost to addiction: health, power, confidence, etc., and learn to keep it for life. This is the quest of our Initiative. This is the meaning of POWER!
