Does Health Insurance Cover Drug Treatment or Rehab?

This question is one of our most frequently asked at Treatment Solutions Network. It is not necessarily an easy one to answer in one page either.

Coverage Does Vary

We must stress that you cannot depend on the information on this page to guarantee any specific coverage. This is a great general guide but should not be interpreted as a promise of coverage. We provide a large variety of services, and there exists an equally expansive list of different insurance policies. It would be impossible to interpret everyone's unique situation here. Get the most accurate information by chatting with one of our Intake Coordinators, by calling 877-417-6237. Our Intake Coordinators are trained to be knowledgeable, friendly and non-judgmental. They will gather your insurance information and assess your treatment needs. Armed with this information they will begin the process of recommending the best treatment possible based on your specific coverage options. Click the links below to read about some of the major insurance providers who have policies which may cover drug treatment or ancillary services.

Common Health Insurance Providers

How do I find out if my policy covers drug treatment services?

First you will need to learn what services are necessary. Is detoxification needed? Has outpatient treatment been tried? How long will the treatment plan last and what services will it entail? There are a lot of questions to be answered first, and Treatment Solutions Network Intake Coordinators can provide those answers with a brief assessment. Call one of them now at 877-417-6237.

After the assessment and determination of what services you are interested in you may call your insurance company to determine your options. Or you can have us look into your coverage as well.

Commonly Covered Services

Below are some common services we provide and their general definitions. Again, the specific type of treatment a client is suggested can depend on many factors. Sometimes even state and local laws can dictate exactly what your treatment is referred to. For example, some local laws define inpatient drug treatment as a hospital setting, while others may apply the term if you sleep in the same location as you are being treated. Check with us or your insurance company for coverage details.

Detoxification Services – Sometimes the long term use of substances can create a condition where an individual's body becomes dependant. This situation requires specialized 24 hour monitoring and possibly medication. This is usually in an in-patient setting.

Out-Patient Drug Treatment – this is a model of drug treatment where you go to treatment one place, but live in another. You are not monitored 24 hours a day. Sometimes this is also referred to as Partial Hospitalization Programs or (PHP).

In-Patient Drug Treatment – In general this is a model where you are living and being treated at the same location (the definition can vary by local/state law).

Residential Treatment – Another way of saying you are residing at the same location you are undergoing treatment services. Often residential implies a more social setting.

In addition, Treatment Solutions Network and our partners provide many other services which your insurance policy may offer benefits for.
