Holistic Drug Rehabilitation

What is a clean, healthy life? What exactly does it mean to "conquer" the addiction that is wreaking havoc on you and your family? A long time ago, the answer might have been simply "stop abusing drugs or alcohol". Today's holistic drug rehab centers realize true healing is more complicated than that.
Call us at 877-417-6237.

What is holistic drug rehab?

Holistic drug rehab is centered on the belief that addicts, above all, are people - people that need and deserve treatment for their entire body, mind and soul. In addition to standard treatment elements such as drug detox, the comprehensive holistic approach can include things you might not associate with rehab: acupuncture, healthy changes to your diet, spiritual counseling and meditation.

Does a holistic approach work?

For some addicts, it is the only way they can truly begin the happier, more-stable life they desire. At Treatment Solutions Network, we make it a priority to find you a treatment facility and treatment plan that is individually tailored to your needs. Should you decide a holistic drug treatment center is appropriate, we can offer plenty of options:

At Michael's House, one of our treatment facilities, residential program participants enjoy delicious and nutritious food, an exercise weight room, as well as meditation and quiet time.

At The Canyon, another of our facilities, organic, locally-produced foods are combined with 240 acres of oak trees and mountaintops to create a nurturing, serene environment where clients feel a sense of inner peace.

We also have successful holistic approaches available for process addictions such as eating disorders, gambling, spending addictions and other behaviors.

One holistic rehab success story

Jason Flaster is an example of a life completely turned around thanks to holistic drug rehabilitation. At age 15, Flaster's life spiraled out of control because of his addition to drugs and alcohol. Exercise became a key ingredient in Flaster's efforts at recovery. Nowadays, Flaster is a few years older. He's also clean, has a positive outlook on life, and shocks even his mother with his newfound zeal for athletics.

Flaster even trains for triathlons, and is a member of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training. He raises money to help find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, and other diseases.

Bonnie Maslin, a psychologist, author, and friend of the Flaster family, posted this on Flaster's fundraising website: "Jason is a hero in his own life who is now becoming a hero to his community with his commitment to help alleviate the suffering of others." Holistic drug rehab works because exercise, for example, can provide tremendous benefits in reducing stress and boosting self-esteem.

A more complete diagnosis

Other components of holistic drug rehabilitation - such as evaluating the entire person, not just their drug habit - allow our trained professionals to create a recovery program designed specifically for you.

Consider this statistic: at least half of the 2 million Americans with severe mental illness also abuse illicit drugs or alcohol, compared to just 15 percent of the general population, according to the Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Mental Health Administration. What happens if someone suffering from both mental and substance abuse receives drug rehab treatment that only deals with half the problem? That untreated mental illness can lead the patient right back to substance abuse.

The role of spirituality in recovery

The spiritual component to holistic drug rehabilitation is important in giving rehab clients a new sense of purpose. Addicts often turn to drugs or alcohol to fill a "empty hole" feeling that exists inside them. The temporary effects of being high or drunk can make that empty feeling go away for a while - but it always returns.

By encouraging clients to explore their own spirituality, holistic drug treatment centers are providing a permanent, healthy way for those in recovery to feel whole. Victor Manzon, assistant director of a substance abuse prevention group in Michigan, explained it to the Battle Creek Enquirer this way: "There's a higher power, so there must be a bigger purpose in life than just scoring some drugs. Then it starts to trickle down from that. If I can believe in others, like a God or a higher power, then I can believe in family, relationships, and in other people."
